Representatives of four donor countries distributed certificates to the members of Kosovo Police Service (KPS) in a ceremony where UNDP also signed the handover of equipment for evidence rooms in 46 police stations all around Kosovo, on Tuesday 4 of March, 2008.
The equipment for small arms destruction and improved the evidence rooms were handed over through Kosovo Small Arms Control Project of UNDP, funded by the British, Belgium the Netherlands and Swedish Governments.
The Kosovo Small Arms Control project (KOSSAC), is part of the international support to the Kosovo institutions in fighting the proliferation of small arms in Kosovo.
Additionally the project will support the Kosovo institutions to locally implement the international agreement called United Nations Program to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Weapons in All Its Aspects.
The event was co hosted by the KPS and UNDP. Representatives of the donors of the project: Ruairi O'Connell, Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy, Wim Peeters, Head of Belgium Liaison Office, Margriet Struijf Head of Netherlands Liaison Office, Ann Sofie Nilsson Head of Swedish Liaison Office, gave speeches in front of the media and the Kosovo Police high Officials.
