In the last seven years UNDP has become the leading source of reliable information about the concerns of Kosovos citizens. A lack of reliable statistics in the region has hampered many organizations work. By undertaking extensive research and conducting opinion polls the organization aims to match the priorities of Kosovos institutions with the needs of ordinary people. The subsequent reports are used to advocate new policies and act as a possible basis for the development of new programmes.
The findings and conclusions of UNDPs reports are widely used by central and local government officials, as well as international organizations and civil society. They have also come to be seen as a much needed and reliable source for statistics on Kosovos development and are also extensively quoted in the local media.
UNDP regularly produces two flagship reports on Kosovo.
Early Warning System Reports survey more than a 1000 Kosovars every three months, and provide analysis on crisis prevention policies to decision makers. This is widely regarded as a barometer of public opinion, and helps public institutions see how their work is perceived.
Human Development Reports are used around the world by the organization to focus on particular areas where economic and social development needs to be improved. The 2006 Kosovo HDR report looked at the issue of youth and made recommendations in areas of education, health and better access to the work place.
